La Cañada Council PTA Reflections Winners

February 16, 2018

We are honored to celebrate all of the talented school-age artists who participated in this year's PTA Reflections contest, which was themed "Within Reach." Hundreds of entries were submitted in six categories: Visual Arts, Literature, Photography, Music, Dance and Film.

La Cañada Council PTA awarded 24 Outstanding Interpretation (first place) awards to student artists from La Canada Elementary, Paradise Canyon, Palm Crest, LCHS 7/8 and LCHS. Those winning entries were then sent along for judging at the First District level (against artwork from over 140 other PTA units in the greater San Gabriel Valley).

We are very proud to announce that ten La Cañada students won awards at the First District level, with three Outstanding Interpretation (first place) winners moving on to compete at the state PTA level:

  1. Aditya S. from LCHS 7/8 for Dance (Middle)
  2. Isabella K. from LCE for Photography (Primary)
  3. Phoebe L. from LCHS 7/8 for Visual Arts (Middle)

La Cañada Council PTA will be celebrating all of our unit winners at a reception on Wednesday, February 28 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm in the LCUSD Round Board Room. The greater La Cañada community is invited to attend. First District winners will be honored at a ceremony to be held at Baldwin Stocker Elementary School in Arcadia on Saturday, March 3 at 1:00 pm.

We'd also like to extend a huge thank you to Dorothy Chen, La Cañada Council PTA Reflections Chair, as well as the unit chairs at each of our schools, for overseeing this competition.

The Arts are alive and well in La Cañada!

The La Cañada Council PTA, along with the League of Women Voters - Pasadena Area, will be hosting a public forum for the five candidates running for the LCUSD Governing Board election. The event will be held at the La Cañada High School auditorium on Monday, October 2 at 7:00 pm. All interested members of the public are invited to attend. In addition to hearing prepared statements from the candidates, attendees will have the opportunity to submit written questions.

The League of Women Voters is dedicated to making democracy work by offering services to communities with the purpose of informing and encouraging voters to take advantage of their right to vote. As a non-partisan organization, the La Cañada Council PTA neither supports nor opposes candidates for public office. It does, however, aim to help disseminate as much factual, objective information as possible during election campaigns so that voters may make more informed choices on issues that affect our community's children and youth.

La Canada Council PTA Senior Scholarship Winner Announced

May 24, 2017

The La Cañada Council PTA Senior Scholarship is given each year to a graduating senior who demonstrates superior leadership skills, a commitment to community service, and a willingness to work to the best of his/her academic ability. Kara Bradley, this year’s recipient of this scholarship, has shown all of the above characteristics, and more.

She is an accomplished and decorated diver, which is an impressive achievement in and of itself. But we at PTA Council were most interested in her passion for helping others, as demonstrated through her volunteer work with Teens for the Advancement of Children’s Hospital here at LCHS, as a leader with National Charity League, and through her Girl Scout Gold Award project, “Finding Compassion for the Homeless.”

Kara embodies the spirit of PTA in her work to engage, empower and advocate for children, families and community, and we can’t wait to see what she does in her next four years at SMU. Congratulations, Kara!
