About PTA Council
PTA structure is organized from the bottom up, starting with the local PTA at your child’s school and going all the way to National PTA.
California PTA is comprised of three levels of geographic organization:
UNITS: The PTA at your child’s school is called a “unit.” Organized and chartered according to rules and regulations outlined in California State PTA bylaws, units are self-governing organizations with the purpose of planning programs and activities to meet local community needs. Units are required to observe policies of California State PTA and National PTA.
The five La Cañada units are: La Cañada Elementary PTA, Palm Crest Elementary PTA, Paradise Canyon Elementary PTA, LCHS 7/8 PTA and LCHS PTSA.
COUNCILS: Councils are groups of member units that come together for conferences, leadership trainings and other coordinated area efforts.
La Cañada Council PTA is the umbrella organization comprised of the five above mentioned local units.
DISTRICTS: District PTAs are large geographical divisions of California State PTA, established to carry out programs and coordinate the work of the councils and units.
La Cañada Council PTA is a member of First District PTA, which includes twenty-two PTA councils (representing over 270 PTA units) from Burbank to Pomona.
